Monstera is a genus of Tropical flowering plants, Aroids, belonging to the Araceae family. They are native to the tropical rain forests and Jungles of South and Central America and the West Indies. The name Monstera is derived from the Latin word for ‘monstrous’ in reference to the natural fenestration in the leaves which display holes and splits and are characteristic of this genus.

Monstera are vining climbers attaching by means of aerial roots. The leaves are alternate, often dark green and heart shaped in a leathery texture with lots of fenestration. The Monstera Deliciosa or ‘Swiss cheese plant’ is the most famous of the genus

The genus is diverse and depending on species and maturity of the plant, the shape, size, and texture of the leaves can vary considerably. Some Shingle with leaves that morph on maturity with juvenile and adult leaves drastically different from one another.

Monstera are not just beautiful plants that can enhance any space, they are on the list of NASA approved ‘Air Purifiers` having the ability to cleanse the Air we breathe and absorb harmful pollutants into their leaves.
